House under contract

Our house finally went under contract on November 16th, 2006. Yay! If you’re not up to speed, I’m picking up the family and moving them to Australia, my country of birth. The opportunity came my way this year and I grabbed it with all hands, fingers, knees and toes. I can still barely contain myself, the fact that after almost 9 years, now with wife and 2 amazing children in tow, I am finally going home. My boys will grow up playing the sports I played. They’ll wear uniforms going to school. Political correctness can kiss my…

(I am referencing the dire mess that America continues to slip in to.)

I was eating at In-N-Out not two nights ago. Probably the best burger joint ever. Ever. The bag the food came in had the following Christmas Season greetings all over it.

  • Merry Christmas
  • Happy Holidays
  • Seasons Greetings
  • Happy Hanukkah
  • Feliz Navidad

And quite possibly another one or two. Yes that’s right, you can no longer warmly state "Merry Christmas" because you shall offend those who either don’t believe in Christmas, the spirit of Christmas or their religion celebrates it in some separate way. Or not at all. Are you kidding me? Walmart actually took political correctness to the Nth degree by removing and replacing Merry Christmas with Happy Holidays a couple years back. It sparked outrage on all sides (as all issues in the US do) until finally they settled with publishing multiple greetings such as In-N-Out did above. What’s next? Some obscure cultish group from somewherestanville coming out and blasting them for not glorifying "their" beliefs? Maybe I should decide to blast Thanksgiving because I don’t like Turkey? (I really don’t like it) Surely this is not just happening in America but I’m tossing a few bucks in that they’re leading the way…

Back on topic. The biggest obstacle in getting there was selling the home that we own in Colorado. We first listed it in late July or early August. Everybody kept saying how fast it would sell. How it was such a good home in a great area (it is) with a fair price. Nothing. And nothing. And some more nothing. Then one showing. And nothing again. So we persuaded our Realtor to take a percent off his commission. Suddenly our house was the featured listing and showings went from one a quarter to five a week. And in mid-November it went under contract. Finally. Our closing date is December 15th which will be the largest weight on our shoulders removed. It can’t get here fast enough.

What then? I dunno. Find a place in Australia. Ideally, and this is a dream of mine, we’ll one day own a home both in Australia and the USA. That way we can live in either country whenever we want. And I’ll have a job that let’s me, yup. I’m dreaming, remember? Well actually, I do have a job that I could live anywhere… in any case, we’ll rent the one we’re not living in and vice versa. The day will come. And I will be pleased that we set the goal and followed through with it. It’s quite a large goal.

I read all of your comments regarding house buying. I definitely know that I have alot more research to do, but fortunately I have most of a year before my lease is up on my apartment.

    Anyway, thanks for the advice.

I have no objection to you doing the blurb thing at the end of your posts. You know, imitation and flattery and all that. :)

Imitating only the best! :) For anyone else that happens to stumble here, Bianca has a really cool blog. I actually subscribe to it.
