My thoughts on living in Australia
December 27, 2009

So…yes it has been a while since I last posted…and no this is not about a New Year’s resolution to do better at posting, however, I think you will still have fun listening to what I have to say.

My day begins at, can you believe it, 5:20 AM with Nevan and Liam waking us to show us what they first gift was at the end of their bed. With that, Mike and I go and splash some water on our faceses to wake up and get the coffe going. After coffee for Mike and freshening up for the both of us it is off to the living room where the boys are waiting paitiently for us to come and hand out gifts. It is roughly 5:40 AM by now and I think, maybe I should wake Hayden so that he can open some gifts; but then I think to myself, I have definately not had enough sleep if I am thinking of waking a sleeping baby just to open gifts!!! So I leave him sleeping until the boys have opened half of their gifts (another 15 mins) and then Mike says lets wake Hayden so he can open gifts; so I do. What were we thinking? He is upset for a bit and then desides to see what is in one of his gifts, unfotuneatly, we lost the batteries to it so it doesn’t work when he opens it…oops! Next gift works great (growling, walking dinasour) and he plays for a bit with it and then begins to be upset again…time for breakfast…then it is time to make two salads for Christmas Lunch up in Sydeny and also get everyone ready for morning church that I thought started at 8 AM…salads made and evryone dressed (not all fed, but dressed) and off to Church…no one is at the church!!! After calling a freind and finding out that it doesn’t start until 8:30 AM, we head back home finish packing and and skipping church, we head off to Sydney and all of the Doig family waiting for us!

After a crazy afternoon eating until all of us could no longer eat anymore, we head off to our  little lodge we rented and chill out for a few hours and then I hear the dreaded words,”Mom, I’m hungry.” Oops again, we didn’t pack any food for that evening and nothing was open that day (and sadly, we find out, nothing is open the next day either!!!) so we nibble on leftover candy and crackers…yummy!

fun Ha?

Hope your Christmas was filled with lots of love, joy, peace, family and friends!

The “count-down”

I know writing on here is really for me since I don’t think anyone really reads my blog anyways.

So…

My count-down is now at 17 days until our little boys is with us :) Besides all the uncomfortablness (I know this isn’t a word, but bear with me) of being pregnant and near my last two weeks, it could be a lot worse. My sleep isn’t (what sleep?) helping me much as of late! I think the excitement of everything, the baby and Mom coming out to see us, is finally getting to me. I woke up last night quite a few times (you know, to use the toilette) however, one of the times, I found ants on the counter and had to clean the entire counter, everything on the counter, and the sink, as that was where the awful bugs were coming from!!!!! I think this was around 3:30 am and took me about 20-30 minutes to do. After that, I tried to go back to bed, but couldn’t stop thinking about everything I needed to get done, and all the things out of my control that I needed to have control of!!! (Silly me!)

Anyway, I am trying to get through these next couple weeks, as fast as I can, and without the least bit of anxiousness (I know, Good luck, right?) Well, I am trying!

I think that is about it, I really don’t have much else to add.

What’s Up!

What’s Up?!?!?!?!

Besides the sky or ceiling (depending on where you are), Not much for me. I just had my 28th Birthday, both my kids are in school now, I have cleaned the house, and now…well, now I am just catching up on my blog as I have been prodded a few times by my friends as to why I haven’t been posting in a while. So here it goes…

As it is -supposed to be- Summer here, I haven’t seen the Sun very much! It is very green everywhere you look. We can’t keep the lawn trimmed, it has been raining soooo much here! I can’t complain too much though, because, being pregnant, it has been great weather for me :) as I am already beginning to experience being extra warm all the time!

With both the boys in school now, it bring s more freedom to my day, and yet the word boredom comes to mind also!!! I can hear my Mother say,”I can find a job for you, if your bored!” LOL But, I have already cleaned the bathroom, the kitchen, the Living room, now I am tired and bored!!! LOL  (thinking out loud, sorry) I wonder if there is some kind of pottery class somewhere close by where I could take a class :) that would be fun!!! Anyway, like I said before, not much going on, and now looking at the clock it is time to pick up one of the boys from school!!! So I must say goodbye for now :)

chat to you all later :)

So, I told you I would share how our Thanksgiving Dinner went yesterday, so here it goes!

The day started with picking up the house and cleaning up from Breakfast, then it was time to run and get the last few forgotten things at the store and the already roasted Chickens from the Rotisserie. When I got back to the house, I heated up the oven for the last two dishes that needed to be baked and set the Mashed potatoes on the stove to be reheated! By then, a few of our guests had arrived with their shared items (green salad makings) so I then began putting the salad together with my good Friend Nina who also helped me with the rest of the meal preparations before everything could be served!

After the dinner table had be set with all the fixings, I then read the Thanksgiving Story to my new German and Aussie friends who had very little knowledge on what it was. After that, we gave thanks to God for friends, family, and great food; and well, the food was history after that :) we all dug in full throttle, making sure to fill ourselves to the brim!

With the dinner finished, and our bellies full, we sat around the table rubbing our stomachs while each one of us shared what we were thankful for this year!

Next, we all went to the living room to watch “our” family favorite movie,”The Princess Bride”. Soon after, everyone went on there merry way, and Mike, the Boys and I went down to the beach/park to get some fresh air before the sun set.

And that was the end to our First Wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner here in OZ!

So, as you may already know, I am proud to be an American and am also loving the Fact that we get to Celebrate Thanksgiving, especially here in OZ! WE are going to be a few days late since I just got back from the States only 2 days ago, and the Kids don’t get any Holiday time off at school; so we are having Thanksgiving on Sunday. WE have invited our German and Australian Friends to join us and I must say they are just as excited as I am! YEAH!!!

Shopping, well, how should I put this I have American recipes and Aussie Markets :) HEHEHEHEHEHE So, we will not be having turkey as Mike doesn’t really like it anyway, and because the little turkey was going to cost me $30 and I just couldn’t see myself spending that kind of money on a turkey that was only going to feed maybe 4 people :)

The looks I was getting from people when I asked them where the canned pumpkin was, it almost made me laugh :) So I guess I am going from “scratch” when it comes to the Pumpkin Pie. And they don’t really have breakfast sausage here, so I am making due with some other sausage that the butcher swore would be great in my Baked Stuffing! oh well what can I say, I only had 4 days to prepare for this :) hehehe next time I will remember not to plan any long distance vacations around Thanksgiving :) heheheh

As you all pretty much know, or at least can tell, I LOVE to cook :) it is one of my passions! And with that, I am pretty particular with everything I am serving :) however, I have never in my life put on a Thanksgiving Dinner by myself!!! I am only slightly freaked out! I am going to try and get all my baked pies, and sweet potatoes done tomorrow afternoon with my good friend Nina, who will be joining us for Thanksgiving. And since we aren’t doing a Turkey, I am actually going to just get a couple precooked chickens at the Rotisserie shop :) and then I will cook everything else on Thanksgiving Day ie. mashed potatoes, asparagus with pancetta, green beans with garlic, home made stuffing with sausage. Wow, just reading that makes me hungry!!!!! LOL

Anyway, I will let you all know how it goes :)

Now, as you may already know, going down to the local pub with your mates is a big thing around here! Well, tonight Michael got his first invite out by a friend of ours. Come to find out when he got home, that he helped the other guys win over $200 each on “pokie” machines while, himself, not spending a dime as he didn’t want to waist our money :) Then, on top of that, he decided to come home at 8 pm rather than staying out even later with the guys! I love my hubby :) He is a “good guy”! Sorry if this sounds like I am bragging, but I need to every once in a while :) LOL :)

Yeah!!! and Today we put it together and it has been swinging it’s lovely face back and forth at me ever since! I think I only left it’s side twice this afternoon! Once to cook dinner and the second to eat it! otherwise, it has been sitting next to me keeping me company :) Mike and I have already been chatting about getting another companion for our bedroom, as we are waking up so early with the heat!

O.K., usually when you think of sleep, you think of closing your eyes and drifting off into some sort of space not really relevant to anything or anyone (most the time!) and awaking with a body well rested and ready for another day! Well, sleep for me right now, consists of trying to fall asleep (you know when you are so tired, you go past the easy fall asleep moment), then waking 3-4 times in the middle of the night to…..yes, everyone, use the toilette (pregnancy and all), to then waking up in the morning to a starving belly (my own, not even the kids!) when all I want to do is fall back asleep to make up for the time that lapsed for each potty break and the time it took to fall back asleep! Oh and don’t get me started on the cold feet thing, yes I am pregnant and still have cold feet, only at night though and trying to fall asleep with them is awful! And how about, get this, I feel uncomfortable sleeping on my sides????? this never happened with my other pregnancies! So right now I am trying to fall asleep on my back, although I wake up to myself on my side, feeling uncomfortable! Wow, I don’t think I have complained this much with either one of my other pregnancies! Forgive me Lord! I am trying to keep a smile whilst going through my tragedies (not really :) ) No seriously, it isn’t that bad really :) like everyone (pregnant or not) we all have our up and down days! It is all on how we handle them that makes them o.k. or not! :) So with that, I will go and rest my wherry head  on my sweet, sweet pillow :)  and dream of, well……………..of anything that comes to mind :)
