Touring California

Touch down in the USA with my good mate, Peter Ford! The culmination of six months’ planning was finally being realised.

You see, our good mate Brett Daniels had just married his American sweetheart (Abigail) in a beach house wedding in Ulladulla, Australia in early November. Friends and family gathered, some too from the United States, to witness this joining of two lovers in what was the Australian leg of their wedding. The 2nd leg was held in Ohio, USA on the 12th December, for the benefit of Abigail’s friends and family. We, Brett’s mates, planned a secret trip to surprise him…

First though, a few days in California. Another mate, Miko, had been living in San Francisco for six months but had recently relocated back to Australia. He was in San Francisco wrapping things up, planning to meet us when we flew to Ohio.

Peter and I rented a Mustang Convertible and set about enjoying our short stay on the West Coast. I lived in San Luis Obispo County for a good number of years, taking the opportunity to show the area off to my good mate. Early on the agenda was teaching the man to drive on the right hand side of the road. With that task nailed, we set about crusin’ the California coast line.

Hearst Castle – a highlight. I had been before (in fact I worked there for a short time) but the day sat well with my Graphic Designer mate.

Morro Bay – a sleepy, coastal town with fine water front food options and eclectic little stores selling all sorts of, well, eclectic things.

San Luis Obispo – visiting restaurants and bars of my yesteryear – a couple late nights, music, a local girl who was smitten by this Australian man I had with me.

California – it was real, see you again soon.
