After a morning hiking and exploring the rugged beauty of Freycinet National Park, we hit the road toward our next stop in Bicheno. With the sun high and our legs still sore from the climb, an afternoon spent relaxing at a scenic cellar door sounded just right. And so, we made our way to Devil’s Corner Cellar Door, a celebrated stop on Tasmania’s East Coast wine trail; and one we weren’t about to miss.
Set along the edge of Moulting Lagoon, this vineyard and cellar door enjoys one of the most picturesque settings in the state. Located off the Tasman Highway between Swansea and Bicheno, it’s an easy detour for anyone journeying along the coast or exploring nearby Coles Bay and Mt Amos.
Views That Steal the Show
As we pulled into the grounds, the scene took our breath away. Looking out across the wetlands of Moulting Lagoon, we were treated to panoramic views of The Hazards, the striking pink-hued mountain range that rises above Coles Bay. Framed by rolling vines and Tasmanian skies, it’s a view that elevates the entire wine-tasting experience.
There’s a unique calm that settles over you here. The open spaces, the sound of water birds in the distance, and the gentle hum of visitors clinking glasses and soaking it all in; it’s the kind of place that makes you slow down, sit back, and breathe.
Wine, Wood-Fired Pizza & Local Delights
The cellar door itself offers a selection of premium cool-climate wines, with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay being local standouts. The tasting experience is relaxed and welcoming, with knowledgeable staff on hand to guide you through the drops or let you explore at your own pace.
Right next door is the Tombolo Café, where wood-fired pizzas, artisan gelato, and locally roasted coffee await. We opted for a generous platter of Tasmanian produce, paired with a glass (or two) of Devil’s Corner wine. Sitting under the canopy with our spread, looking out over the lagoon, it felt like the very essence of East Coast Tasmania; fresh, flavourful, and unforgettable.
A Must-Visit East Coast Stop
Whether you’re a wine enthusiast, a foodie, or simply someone chasing Tasmania’s most beautiful views, Devil’s Corner Cellar Door deserves a spot on your itinerary. It’s more than just a tasting room, it’s a destination in itself.
For us, it was the perfect way to spend an afternoon between adventures. From the breathtaking outlook to the local food and wine, it delivered everything we could have asked for, and then some. If you're travelling between Freycinet and Bicheno, do yourself a favour; pull in, pour a glass, and stay a while.
