No trip to the Gold Coast is complete without a little actionโand we made the most of it with a couple of unforgettable family outings.
First up: Zero Latency VR, a fully immersive free-roam virtual reality experience. I first tried this in Melbourne on a team-building day, so I knew exactly how good it wasโand how much my 16-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter would love it. I wasnโt wrong. Strapping on the headsets, we dove into alien battles and futuristic missions, moving freely through large warehouse-like arenas. Itโs not just a gameโitโs an adrenaline rush, a team exercise, and full-body fun all at once. If youโve got teens, this is a must-do.
Then, of course, we had to do Movie World. Itโs been nearly 10 years since our last visit, back when Katherine was a baby. Now, with older kids venturing off for thrill rides on their own and our 4ยฝ-year-old Mirin wide-eyed with wonder, we experience the park in a whole new way.
Mirin absolutely loves itโevery character sighting, every kidsโ ride, every moment. The joy on her face meeting Bat Woman or cruising through themed mini rides is contagious. Meanwhile, the older kids check in throughout the day, making the most of the rollercoasters and high-speed attractions. Itโs one of those rare days where everyoneโregardless of ageโhas a brilliant time.
Movie World still has that classic theme park charm: Main Street-style storefronts, costumed characters wandering past, and music floating in the air. Thereโs nostalgia for us and wonder for the kids, and that combination makes for an amazing day out.
We wrap up the evening back at our apartment, slipping into the pool and hot tub under the stars. Thereโs something pretty perfect about ending a big day with a soak, a laugh, and a swim with the kids in glowing blue water.
