Family Farm Stay in Somersby NSW: Summer Memories Made

Between Christmas and the New Year, we traded in screen time for country time, spending several incredible days on a family farm stay in Somersby, NSW. Hosted by Rad, one of Gillโ€™s childhood friends, this was the perfect blend of nature, connection, and good old-fashioned fun. An ideal way to reset before our upcoming road trip to Queensland.

The property itself is expansive and beautifully kept, with rolling paddocks, a luxurious L-shaped pool, and plenty of room for adventure. Mornings were spent feeding the horses by golf cart, afternoons swimming, and evenings unwinding with great food, drinks, and laughter. The relaxed rhythm of farm life kicked in immediately.

Katherine, in particular, found her stride. With free rein to drive the golf cart around the property to check in on animals or help spread manure, she fully embraced her inner farmhand. Once she took the wheel, that was it; we barely saw her again! Occasionally, sheโ€™d swing by to pick up Mirin and I for a drive around the farm, showing us her domain like a true farmhand.

Hayden took to the experience just as enthusiastically. Between time spent on the dirt bike, swimming, and bonding with the horses, he was in his element. The kids were free to roam, explore, and just be kids; with screens staying mostly untouched except during the occasional down moment with our hostsโ€™ children playing video games.

These few days were a beautiful reminder of the joy in simplicity: shared meals, fresh air, and the natural energy that comes from stepping away from routines. It was a mini vacation that felt longer than it was, in the best possible way.

Now, with our Queensland road trip on the horizon, this country interlude was the perfect prelude to more family memories in the making.
