Just a couple of days after our trio of birthdays (Nevan on February 1, myself on February 5, and Jenifer on February 6) we headed to the beach for a relaxed day in the sun. The celebration may have officially wrapped up, but this felt like the perfect way to extend the joy, especially with family and friends visiting from overseas.
Welcoming Visitors from Abroad
Jeniferโs mum Linda, her brother David, and longtime family friend Annemarie had arrived from the United States for a visit. Their presence added a special feeling to the day. It was a rare and wonderful opportunity for our Australian and American worlds to come together. Also joining us was our good friend Holly Benstead, who brought her kids along to share in the beach fun. Holly is Canadian, so it was especially nice for her to enjoy the day with a few fellow North Americans all together at the beach.
The Magic of Australian Beaches
David in particular seemed to take it all in with wide eyes. Experiencing a proper Australian beach for the first time, especially along the south coast of New South Wales, is something truly special. From pristine stretches of soft sand to the dramatic rocky outcrops that frame the water, it is not hard to see why locals and visitors alike fall in love with these beaches.
Sun, Sand, and Boogie Boards
The kids wasted no time launching into beach mode. They climbed and explored the rock pools, collected shells, and waded through shallow channels. The real highlight came when they hit the surf with their boogie boards, riding wave after wave while the grown-ups chatted, relaxed, and occasionally joined in. There is a kind of pure happiness that only comes with saltwater, sunshine, and shared laughter.
Making Memories That Last
Uncle David had a great time bonding with his nephews, throwing a ball around in the sand and cheering them on in the surf. It was one of those simple days that ends up etched into your memory not because of any big moment, but because everything just felt right.
It was also a reminder of how lucky we are to live so close to this natural beauty, and how powerful it can be to share it with the people we love, whether they come from just down the road or from halfway across the world.
